A dozen military conscripts ended up in the hospital after an armored personnel carrier swerved to avoid a reindeer and hit another vehicle.
Finnish Defense Forces said the incident happened on Road 82 between Ketola and Lake Kemijärvi in Lapland at 6pm on Tuesday.
In total there were 28 people involved in the crash and five of the Kainuu Brigade recruits remained under observation on Wednesday.

An army spokesperson said that none of the injuries were serious and all the conscripts are now back at their base, reports the Helsinki Times.
After the incident earlier this week five of the conscripts were taken to the Lapland Central Hospital by ambulance and seven by defense vehicles.

Earlier on Tuesday the military tweeted that conscripts were performing military exercises throughout Finland.

They said this was to 'develop local defense readiness and capability' as well as help 'authorities' ability to cooperate in rapidly changing situations.'

Thousands of the roaming caribou are hit by vehicles and die on Lapland's roads. Herders paint antlers in fluorescent colors, hang reflectors around the necks of reindeer, and use movable traffic signs to try to keep their herds from getting killed.
